The purpose of the midrow crop is to create a habitat for beneficial insects, small fauna, and soil life that contribute to the overall balance of the vineyard. By attracting helpful species such as ladybirds and hoverflies, we can naturally manage pest populations, allowing us to reduce the need for sprays and maintain the health of our vines with minimal intervention.
Some of the plants we grow are even selected to host early-season pests like aphids. These serve as an early food source for predatory insects, helping to establish a strong ecological balance well before the grapevines begin to bud.
Among the midrow crop, you will see species such as brassicas. Their bright yellow flowers add beauty to the landscape, but beneath the surface, they serve an important purpose.
