I love a bit of history with my wine – as long as the wine stacks up, obviously – and the history of wine-making in Australia is a big part of the fun I get from my cellar door visits.
So, I’d love the film rights to the Winmark Wines saga. The vineyard was originally named Pooles Rock Farm, after notorious local rogue and ex-convict, Richard Poole, who slept under a huge rock on the property.
By 2016, when it was purchased by Karin Adcock, the Hunter Valley vineyard, had produced over 80 award-winning chardonnays, but had become neglected. However, Karin also has a history - of seriously successful business ventures.
She’s a personal favourite of mine and thousands of men across the nation, having introduced Pandora jewellery to Australia, thus, solving, in one masterly stroke, every birthday/Mothers’ Day/Christmas gift trauma for us. Thanks, Karin!
Today, the Winmark Wines property has been transformed by a multi-talented team, comprising 2017 Viticulturist of the Year, Liz Riley, Vineyard Manager, David Grosser, Consultant, John Belsham and Landscape artist, Paul Banjay. It’s a Win-ning team!
