With over 15 years of dedication to clay, Sophia is constantly being drawn deeper into this medium. Beginning with a set of vessels being exhibited in GOMA Brisbane she continued her sculptural journey through QLD Collage of Art and on to learning wheel throwing and beginning a business in 2016 making functional ware. Landing in Byron Bay in 2020 Sophia has recently started a new business with her old clay-loving hands, Sogo Ceramics, a balance of functional wheel thrown pieces and hand-built art.
Sophia’s work is deeply influenced by the elegance and simplicity of traditional Japanese ceramics, with a preference for natural and raw finishes that speak to the essence of the material and the earth it comes from. Each piece she makes is a reflection of her personality and style, the vessel cherished in every part of its creation. She is proud and grateful to share these pieces of herself with others, knowing that they bring joy and beauty into their lives.
