Sharon Taylor is a ceramic artist who has been practicing and exhibiting in the Newcastle area for the last 12 years.
Her ceramic sculptures are inspired by her natural environment, the shapes, forms, colours and textures of the Australian landscape. Sharon spent her childhood exploring the bush and climbing trees in the Hunter Valley which instilled a fascination with the landscape and nature. Currently a resident of lake Macquarie she finds the lake, beaches and bushland areas constant inspiration for her artmaking practice.
Sharon enjoys working with clay because of its versatility and the tactile processes of forming and making the works. She loves to make pieces that can be put back into the landscape which has inspired them. Always looking at the plants and land formations around her, she strives to expose the hidden beauty in a captivating way.
Sharon Taylor graduated from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor of Fine Art, Honours (ceramics), in 2010.
She was employed at the university of Newcastle as technical officer in the ceramics Studios for 9 years, (ending in 2019), where she was able to indulge and share her enthusiasm for working with clay with others.
She has experience in producing both functional and sculptural work for indoor and outdoor use, and has produced work on a commission basis for the university of Newcastle and private collectors.
