Sallie Portnoy is a versatile interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans glass, clay, metal, and mixed media. Her foundation in ceramics strongly influences her glass work, which has gained international recognition and is featured in both private and permanent collections. She studied ceramics at the University of Manitoba and NSCAD in Canada, later completing a BA in Ceramics at COFA and an MSA in Glass at Sydney University’s SCA. Portnoy has presented numerous solo exhibitions and frequently participates in outdoor public art events. She has received multiple major awards and has completed public art commissions for private clients as well as community councils.
Her teaching experience includes workshops across Australia, Canada, Turkey, and the United States, including at the Corning Museum of Glass, UrbanGlass in New York, and Pilchuck in Seattle. She is based on Sydney’s northern beaches, where she lives, teaches, and creates from her Gspot Glass studio.
