Larissa Gray

Larissa Gray, a versatile multi-disciplinary Australian artist, resides and creates in the lands of the indigenous Taungurung people in Victoria’s Macedon Ranges. She’s renowned for her storytelling ability, utilising three-dimensional small-scale bronze and mixed media sculptures.

In her work, Larissa captures a deep sense of nostalgia, exploring scenes of nature, animals, and everyday objects. Her creations delve into themes of identity, memory, loss, and the human condition, resulting in technically adept and emotionally charged pieces. Each artwork weaves a complex narrative that invites multiple interpretations.

Larissa’s art is a celebration of life’s simple joys and the beauty in imperfections. It encourages us to embrace our memories and reconnect with our humanity.

Larissa credits her artistic inspiration in part to her childhood spent surrounded by the natural beauty of the Australian bushland in rural Sydney, NSW and in part to just being a human existing in the world.

All Larissa ever wanted to do was art and she left school at age 15 to study a BFA at the National Art School graduating in 1996 at age 21.

Throughout her art career, Larissa has earned recognition as a selected finalist in numerous Australian art prizes and has received multiple awards and grants.

She was the WINNER of the 2023 Yarra Valley Arts Sculpture Award Prize, she received Highly Commended and the People’s Choice Award at the 2023 Newstead Arts Hub’s ‘It’s a Small World Sculpture Prize’.
In 2019, a grant from the Macedon Ranges Shire Council led to the creation of a unique cast bronze triptych, now on permanent display at the Tokai Cultural Arts Centre in Japan.

Her achievements also include winning the Ron Anstley Big Hearted Award at the 2018 LOT 19 Spring Sculpture Prize. Her art has also found a place in private collections all around the world.
