Jules Irving is a Sydney based artist working on the Gadigal Lands of the Erora Nation.
Her sculptural ceramic forms are hand coiled, burnished and mostly sprayed with terrasigillata, a fine clay slip. She often uses Raku kilns where the unpredictable outcome of fire and carbon trapping never ceases to surprise. Jules works on several pieces at a time manipulating the curves to entice the desire to reach out and touch the forms.
She is influenced by bushwalking on the Central Coast amongst the magnificent angophora gums and abundant bird life as the seasons change and the light ebbs and flows.
Although late to touch clay, Jules felt at one with its tactile and malleable quality. She started her ceramic journey doing Certificate III and then a Diploma of Visual Arts/Ceramics at Hornsby TAFE before moving to Northern Beaches TAFE to complete an Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts/Ceramics in 2019.
