Jodie grew up in the Australian bush, in the beautiful Hunter Valley of NSW. Exploring the local bushland for countless hours growing up, she found a strong affinity with the birds and the local landscape, which still informs her work today. Jodie works in oils on both canvas and linen, first drawing a detailed image in silverpoint, she then builds each piece starting first with broad strokes followed by very fine work to capture the finest details such as the light in an eye, and the texture of a feather, or the finest lichen on a branch.
Jodie seeks to evoke both a sense of the present time and the past in her work. Her birds are often paired with manmade timber and metal which has been allowed to age and weather over many decades, becoming much more part of the landscape as it slowly changes over time. She strives to capture a sense of stillness and peace that the quiet busyness of nature so often inspires.
As an emerging artist Jodie had her first solo show last year -the entire exhibition sold out, and she is now in the process of creating a new body of work.
Jodie’s work is held in private collections both locally and internationally
