Emma Elise Petterson is a self-taught watercolourist from Sydney Australia.
She paints out of her home studio where she loves exploring colours, granulation, and a wide range of subject matter. She first started using watercolours to lessen feelings of anxiety. She finds the unpredictable nature of watercolours to be therapeutic as it reflects the uncontrollable world around us. Her art is a way to express peace, joy and her vibrant spirit.
A principle theme in her art is Australian native botanicals. She loves painting interiors and parts of the home that hold so many memories and special moments for people. She finds inspiration from personal treasure, objects, nature and delicious sweet treats.
“My love of Henri Matisse, David Hockney, Vincent Van Gourch and Margaret Preston inspire my colour choices and subject matter and begun my love of colour and texture. I also find inspiration in everyday life. Whether
it be a cut lemon from my kitchen, a cute teapot I saw
at an op shop, a shell I picked up on a walk, or a fabric pattern that I see whilst out and about. Inspiration can
be found everywhere and in little things”.
