Vain and calm, she sits in her picture. With barbwire edges and ‘Vanity’ as jewellery. Another in the picture is not so stoic and vain. The ugly and raw is rarely allowed to be seen in a picture perfect world. The work was created when another artist’s work was painted over. Thus vanity is worked on several levels and in the deeper layers lies remnants of childish and simple dreams.

About the Artist: Danish artist Julie Bidstrup creates paintings, lithographs and collages inspired by street art and impressionism. Her artwork is layered by stories, symbolism and contrasts. Changing patterns, chaos, quirky characters and destinies are recurring themes in her works.
