GICLÉE – QUALITY PRINTS OF ORIGINAL WORKS AT AFFORDABLE PRICES
Like the lithograph, the giclée is a tradition within art printing, where the product is published in limited editions. While lithography is a manual process, giclée is a digital print, where a photographed image is printed in pigment-rich and lightfast ink. The difference between a regular print and a giclée is a very high resolution, and a much richer colour spectrum that will not fade for the next 100 years.
The quality paper that is printed on also has importance for the artistic expression. We always use a heavy cotton paper that absorbs the ink and has a texture that adds an extra layer of quality and substance to the image. The high resolution allows the texture from the original to be reproduced in the giclée, so you feel that there is a piece of handwork behind it. The giclée print also allows the artist to add changes in colour strength and size format that can give the work a different look than the original. You can therefore say that part of the artistic work continues into the printing process.
Sometimes pictures are just so good that it’s a shame if only one of them exists. Art prints and prints allow artists to publish works in more than a single copy, which also makes it a more economical way to create art and buy art. Like lithographs, giclées are published in limited editions and are both numbered and signed by the artist. Due to the high quality of the print and the paper, the work also bears the stamp of being original, because it has a texture and depth of colour that you don’t see on ordinary prints.
