Winmark Single Vineyard Reserve Chardonnay 2021

August 1, 2023 QWIne

Deliciously attractive, this is Hunter Valley Chardonnay in peak form. A superb wine from Winmark that will only continue to develop with some bottle age.

Of the four Chardonnays in the Winmark range, I felt this was the premier wine despite leaving an extra $35 dollars in your pocket compared to its more prestigious sibling Icon 72 Chardonnay 2021.

Free run juice was matured in French oak for eleven months. The end result was a wine of adorable shape and balance. Long and dangerously persistent, think lemon meringue, white fleshed nectarines and cut pear as they muse with cashews and a flirtatious nougat ripple. Glorious palate weight ensures this moves and weaves through every crevice leaving a ginger spice in its wake. I could sit with this for a while, and maybe I just did. Brilliant!
